Grand Hôpital de Charleroi
- VK Group
- This new campus dedicated entirely to health will spread out around the first new-generation Belgian hospital located at the eastern gate of the city.[...]
The author of the project VK – RESERVOIR has pooled complementary skills where the emphasis is on a holistic approach, in order to offer its client a project that stands out due to its open spaces, where the landscape and environmental quality is geared towards the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of all users. The aim is to help create high-quality spaces, which, of course, are the primary factor of the patient, staff and visitors' health.
The architectural reflection focused on the meeting of economy and property management to propose an ambitious hospital project that reinterprets the method of "layers." A complex that fits into the landscape, compact, flexible and humanised. The aim here is to break away from the traditional single-block-style hospital, to design a building with a geometric clarity in perfect harmony with the functions it houses. The facades separating the hospital from the park will be created, like a casing, in a dark brick (reflecting the colour of the ground). In contrast, all the facades facing towards the interior of the complex will be built in light coloured bricks. In this way, despite the large dimensions, the hospital complex carries the principle of intuitive identification and orientation.
