Redevelopment of a public square in a pedestrian space.
About
Along the canal, on the place de Liverpool, this square has to contend with heavy traffic due largely to the second-hand car dealerships in the area. Many residents have expressed their dissatisfaction by setting up the "Sustainable Neighbourhood Contract”. This project proposes radical measures to return the area to vulnerable users. With the help of Rotor, specialists in reclaimed materials, Suède 36 has devised a new pedestrian space where the urban furniture is manufactured using recycled materials.

A pedestrian area has been created that wages war on the car. Playful furniture and new lighting have been installed and new trees planted. Masonry walls covered with wood become benches and terraces. The square becomes a large multipurpose esplanade. The surfacing, which was in good condition, has been kept in its original state. As the profile of the road has not been changed, the project is very cheap, even if the use of the square has undergone a complete change.

To vary the materials and facilities, two small wooden decks are placed in the sunniest spot on the square. They are versatile elements that can be used as benches, mini stages, playful elements and defensive elements against traffic. Additional trees have been planted as well as flower boxes for use by local residents and children who will plant them in the course of participatory events organised by the municipality.
