Mies Van der Rohe Prize 2011 - European Prize for

The Cultural hall Victor Jara by the brussels office L'Escaut, in association with BE Weinand, is one of the 45 projects that will be shown in the exhibition and the catalog of the Mies Van der Rohe Prize 2011.

Among the 6 finalists of the Award, a project was realised by a flemish office: le Bronks Youth Theater at Brussels, by Martine De Maeseneer Architecten / Martine De Maeseneer, Dirk Van den Brande.

The Mies van der Rohe Prize is an initiative of the European Commission and is organised by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe.

Its principal objectives are to recognise and commend excellence in the field of architecture and to draw attention to the important contributions of European professionals in the development of new concepts and technologies. The Prize also sets out to promote the profession by encouraging architects working throughout the entire European Union and by supporting young architects as they set off on their careers. The nominated works are not limited by scale or programme. The selection of the Jury for each edition has included private homes and public housing; museums and cultural installations; educational, health and sports facilities; as well as large-scale infrastructure projects and transport systems. The common denominator is that these works all contribute to the construction of the European city.

The European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation announced on April 11 that The Neues Museum in Berlin is the winner of the 2011 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
