MCJP Exhibition

Programme: A focus on entrepreneurship and architecture in the region of Tohoku 3 years after the catastrophe on the 11th of March 2011, this exhibition focuses on the incredible energy of a community which is committed to rebuilding its locality. A selection of photographs and testimonies take you to the heart of the entrepreneurial and architectural projects supported by L’OCCITANE and SHSH.

About: After the tsunami of March 11, 2011, the office SHSH has reflected on the ways to contribute to the reconstruction of temporary housing as well as the rapid improvement of living conditions. Upon realisation of the catastrophe that had just affected Japan, SHSH felt very strongly towards the disaster relief considering their European and Japanese connections. Yuriage, the village where Shizuka Hariu’s family resided for many years, was severely damaged by the disaster. SHSH has spent nearly two years developing volunteer activities through interviews with local residents and frequent site visits. Also working in close cooperation with local architects from the JIA (Japan Institute of Architects) to successfully define the needs of the people affected by the Tsunami. The Northeast section of the JIA established a Reconstruction Support Committee, led by the office SHAA (Soichi Haryu Architects & Associates) in Miyagi Prefecture during the first year after the disaster. Members of the JIA quickly responded to the victims’ needs. However, several members of the community had already lost their homes or been evacuated. To mark the launch of the exhibition "AFTER THE TSUNAMI, BUILDING THE JAPAN OF TOMORROW", a conference will take place on 4th March 2014 at the Maison de la Culture du Japon at 18h30. On this occasion, a round table will bring together key entrepreneurship actors.
