In January 2024, architect Chacha Atallah and La Boîte, Centre of Contemporary Art in Tunis, will be presenting their programme on Villa Baizeau, the renowned residence in Carthage, designed by the famous architect Le Corbusier and his associate Pierre Jeanneret.

This programme was born out of a desire to highlight a unique piece of architectural work on the shores of the Mediterranean and to critically explore a number of the conceptual threads that its idiosyncrasy creates.

Programme:

Architecture Exhibition-Catalogue: Villa Baizeau Carthage, Le Corbusier & Jeanneret: Actualité de l’architecture simple (The latest on simple architecture)

(from 15 January to 15 May 2024) at 32 Bis:

● Inaugural conference on 15 January 2024 at 2pm and vernissage at 5.30pm, marking the opening of the exhibition-catalogue dedicated to Villa Baizeau's architecture. An in-depth look at the aesthetics, history and impact of this emblematic residence.

● The creation of the exhibition catalogue has been entrusted to Accattone.

International conference: Précisions sur l’habitat contemporain collectif (Clarifications of the contemporary collective habitat)

(16-19 January 2024):

● Major meeting bringing together international figures from the world of architecture. Stimulating debates on the themes of the contemporary collective habitat and Le Corbusier's heritage. Participants: Sophie Delhay, Martino Tattara (Dogma), Kersten Geers, David Van Severen, Jelena Pancevac (OFFICE), Éric Lapierre, Tristant Chadney, Laurent Esmilaire (Experience), Adrien Verschuere (Baukunst), André Kempe (Atelier Kempe Thill), Konstantinos Pantazis, Marianna Rentzou (Point Supreme), Ahmed Belkhodja (fala). The conferences will be held in the École Nationale d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme de Tunis (ENAU) - Rue El Quods, Carthage

Contemporary Art Exhibition: Only Ruins To Be Found / Seules les ruines demeurent

(from 16 January to 16 March 2024) in La Chapelle Sainte-Monique at the IHEC Carthage:

● Vernissage on 16 January 2024 (6pm). Using speculative practices, the exhibition offers imaginary access to the villa, a fantasy using the spectator's position as the starting point, from the Chapelle Sainte-Monique, overlooking Villa Baizeau.

Parallel programme (January - May 2024):

Architectural walks:

● Guided tours of districts symbolic of Tunis' architectural and urban modernity, led by the associations Docomomo Tunisie and Édifices & Mémoires.

Workshops for young people:

● Interactive workshops giving children a unique perspective on the heritage that Le Corbusier left behind.
