Eva Le Roi: illustration "Monditalia" - Venice Biennale 2014
The Brussels based illustrator Éva Le Roi* collaborates to the project « The Architecture of Fulfilment A Night With a Logistic Worker » in the section Monditalia at la Biennale di Venezia. The project, by the think tank Behemoth presents M. who is a night-shift logistic worker in the Piacenza's warehouse of Atacama, a fictional leading multinational corporation of online commerce. The exhibition follows M.'s typical day, unveiling the perverse logic behind the company's reassuring public image. Usually regarded as an abstract information system, on the contrary, logistics is a technology able to translate, on the one hand, very concrete desires into calculable quantities and standardized operations. On the other hand, the architecture of the warehouse transforms those standardized tasks into very concrete labour. Precisely in the architectural theatre of logistic that workers like M. are finding the possibilities for a new political recomposition.Éva Le Roi realized a drawning of 6 m x 25 cm. It describes the daily journey of a woman from his home to his place of work at night, back and forth. It is both a time line and a journey through the different types of landscape and city in this region.* Éva Le Roi studied illustration at the École Estienne in Paris and visual media at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. Since 2010 she collaborated with architecture offices such as Xaveer De Geyter Architects, 51N4E, AUC and Nicolas Firket Architects. In 2012 she presented a graphic contribution to the project ‘POST-CITY’ in the pavilion of Luxemburg at the architecture biennale di Venezia 2010.
