Programme

Renovation of the squares, streets, and alleys in the village center

About

Crupet is a typical village of the Condroz region, labeled as "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia." It has managed to preserve a remarkable architectural heritage within a highly diverse natural setting. The old dungeon, the “fake” grotto, the church, the mills, the walking trails, the folklore, and the local craftsmanship make it a tourist village that thrives through its residents and visitors alike.

However, the village center was dominated by highly visible and deteriorated road infrastructure, which negatively impacted user safety and the quality of the living environment.

The historical structure of the village remains very clear, and the project aims to create new connections between the "stone" heart of the village and the "earth" village halo.

This work on open spaces focuses on reducing the impact of cars in favor of pedestrians and improving the living environment.

The design alternates materials—grass, concrete, smooth or rough stone—to transition seamlessly from streets to parking areas, squares to forecourts, and alleys to pathways.

Vegetation enhances the built environment, blending the vast rural landscape with the paving joints, from century-old trees to wandering annual flowers.
