Programme

Conversion of the thermoelectric power plant into a digital training and innovation center on the Val-Benoit site in Liège.

About

Located along Rue Solvay, the former Val-Benoit thermoelectric power station (1937, Albert Duesberg architect) is a major witness to a major urban planning and architectural adventure. Following in the footsteps of the great exhibitions of the early 20th century in Liège, the Val-Benoit site combines urban vision, technical and architectural performance, and openness to the world of science and industry.

The particularity of the project lies in the willingness of each party to share a series of targeted functions (entrance, reception, vertical and horizontal circulation, sanitary facilities and various other utility rooms). It is understood that each entity perceives the possible complicities to be cultivated with other entities (e.g. Cité des Métiers with Ulg continuing education). It is also understood that other functions specific to each entity may also be shared formally and/or informally (e.g. meeting rooms, conference rooms, auditoriums).

Sharing a single location and pooling these functions is one of the project's key challenges.
