The Cave People

Architect

Traumnovelle

Programme

The Cave People constructs the setting for a fantasised reality. The installation is described as a sequence of strata of suspended translucent tarpaulins leading to the creation of a vertical topography through cutting and subtraction.

The installation is activated by a performer using a system set up by the architects. The system consists of a combination of a spatial matrix and a light matrix.

The first consists of a succession of translucent screens suspended from the box slab
by a series of clamps. The second is made up of a set of orange-tinted PAR 64 projectors positioned vertically, together with a smoke machine that creates a physical play of colour. The aperture index of the spotlights was maximised to obtain the most homogenous colour rendition possible. Soft, regular beats of light will create a space for contemplation, leading visitors into a state of quietude and introspection.

In the theatre's antechamber, a smoke machine and a fixed laser are positioned vertically, levelling the partition separating it from the theatre. This device forms the first coloured screen that visitors will have to cross to enter the proposed theatrical space.
