3 Belgian architects awarded
European Award - Architectural Heritage Intervention

© WBA 3 Belgian projects awarded at the 7th edition of this award, held in Barcelona.
🔹 Royale Belge (Brussels) - by Bovenbouw Architectuur and DDS+ in collaboration with London based Caruso St John Architects Llp.
Selected in the Built Heritage Category: Initially designed as Royale Belge's insurance company headquarters, the 80.000 m2 building was transformed to meet contemporary requirements without losing its heritage value. It is now offering a restaurant, a co-working space, a hotel, an auditorium, a health center and offices.
🔹 Het Steen (Antwerp) - by noAarchitecten.
Winner in the Built Heritage Category: This iconic medieval fortress, Antwerp's oldest building, has been transformed into a welcoming city gateway and visitor center. The jury considers that “the extension is new and modern, with a well-executed design and a careful choice of materials, bringing new life to a complex urban context."
🔹 Share And Reuse Factory (Kortrijk) - by ATAMA.
Awarded the New European Bauhaus Special Mention: This old firestation has been redeveloped into a share- and reuse factory, where civic, neighborhood, and city initiatives come together. The jury has highlighted that the project proposes a “comprehensive intervention in a built complex, turning it into an accessible, inclusive space under shared governance.”Congratulations to these Belgian architects for this well-deserved recognition. Your projects illustrate the strength and diversity of Belgian Architecture and its contribution to the future of Europe's urban landscape.
