Programme

The BW project is located within a privately owned woodland at the edge of Louvain‑la‑Neuve. The primary ambition of the architectural proposal is to embed the building within a complex site and to live in dialogue with the verticality of the surrounding oaks and beeches.

The site’s orientation and pronounced slope guided the decision to position the house at the break of slope, in order to retain a level, south‑facing garden while developing the building over two storeys.

The upper level accommodates the living areas, opening onto the garden, together with a complete principal suite. The lower level, partially embedded within the terrain, contains the majority of the north‑facing bedrooms, with openings towards the wooded incline. The secondary volumes of the garage and carport articulate the massing and introduce visual permeability through the solid volumes.

Two façade materials are set in dialogue. A dark‑grey brick with brown nuances forms the project’s plinth, anchoring it to the site. Brown‑red tinted zinc, evoking the lightness of the site’s autumn foliage, sits lightly atop the brick volume.

Generous apertures bathe the interior spaces in natural light and curate views towards the exceptional surroundings
