About

At the heart of the shared ULB and VUB campus in Ixelles, the Learning & Innovation Center brings together knowledge, activities, and people in a space dedicated to innovation. Designed as a unifying and adaptable place, it combines a library, classrooms, coworking spaces, an auditorium, and a cafeteria within a compact, fluid architecture that connects seamlessly with its surroundings.

A unifying building
Located at the crossroads of flows between the ULB and the VUB, the LIC defines itself as both a spatial and social landmark. More than a university facility, it is a central place where work, study, and social life intersect, helping to strengthen cohesion and the identity of the campus.

Educational Dynamics

The building reflects a pedagogy based on sharing and experimentation. Its spaces stimulate interaction between students and teachers while promoting “learning by doing.” The large glazed façade extends this dynamic by opening the LIC to the campus and showcasing the richness of activities taking place inside.

Form and Expression

Organized in a compact and graduated manner—from public to private, from interactive to introverted—the LIC responds to the diversity of its program. Its reflective envelope, constantly changing with the light and sky, situates the building in an evolving dialogue with its surroundings

Usages et flexibilité

Le programme complexe du LIC réunit des fonctions variées – étude, travail collaboratif, enseignement, recherche et événements. L’organisation claire des espaces garantit des conditions optimales pour chaque usage, entre interaction et concentration. Dès l’entrée, un vaste foyer accueille les usagers dans un espace convivial et lisible, depuis lequel les différentes fonctions du bâtiment se déploient naturellement. Des connexions visuelles renforcent encore cette fluidité et encouragent les échanges entre usagers.
