Project

Crabe Fantôme - Evolutive housing

Architect

O.U.V.R.A.G.E.S.

Programme

Transformation of a heritage-valued restaurant building into evolutive residential units.

About

The project transforms a former neighbourhood restaurant in Watermael-Boitsfort (Brussels, BE) into adaptable housing rooted in its heritage value. In an uncertain ecological and economic context, the intervention rejects a fixed, single-use programme, in favour of a restrained and legible architectural strategy. Conceived as an evolving infrastructure, the building is organised around three vertical circulation cores, which structure the plan and enable its future division into three high-quality dwellings with minimal intervention. A ground-floor extension and a subtle raise of the roof, with an addition of a loggia lit by two sliding skylights to make the attic liveable, increase housing density. Both extensions are built of wood, adding to the project's ecological commitment alongside its evolutivity.
