From 25 September 2019 to 5 January 2020, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (BOZAR) hosted the exhibition Baukunst: Performance & Performativity, part of a series of monographic exhibitions co-produced by A+ Architecture in Belgium and BOZAR, dedicated to Belgian architecture offices with established international recognition.

Devoted to the Brussels-based office BAUKUNST, founded in 2008 by architect Adrien Verschuere, the exhibition highlighted a practice situated at the intersection of design, research and teaching. Through a rigorous scenography and a body of emblematic works, she revealed a critical approach shaped by interdisciplinary collaborations and sustained theoretical engagement.

An international resonance rooted in architecture’s long time frame

On the occasion of the exhibition, Wallonie-Bruxelles Architectures organised an international press trip and welcomed cultural operators and specialised journalists. Among them was Moisés Puente, editor-in-chief of the leading Spanish architecture magazine 2G, renowned for her monographs devoted to major figures of contemporary architecture.

This mediation and networking initiative, embedded in WBA’s international outreach strategy, has led to a significant outcome: six years later, 2G has published a 160-page monograph devoted to BAUKUNST.

The publication, the result of sustained observation and critical and editorial maturation, represents a meaningful recognition of the office’s work on the international stage. It also illustrates the delayed yet enduring impact of the promotional actions undertaken by Wallonie-Bruxelles Architectures, and serves as a reminder that in architecture, visibility and influence are built over time — through continuity, and through the long-term inscription of projects and relationships.
