When detail defines architecture: Aurélie HACHEZ (AHA) in Rotterdam

© Philippe+Braquenier On 16 April 2026, the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam will host an evening dedicated to the role of detail in architecture, on the occasion of the publication of A+317 – Joints & Details, the latest issue of the magazine A+ Architecture in Belgium.
For this event, Belgian architect Aurélie Hachez, founder of the office AHA, will engage in a conversation with Dutch architect Job Floris, co-founder of Monadnock. Together, they will discuss how details can transform both the perception and the design process of an architectural project.
Detail as a design tool
In collaboration with Aurélie Hachez, the editorial team of A+ explores in this issue the multiple roles that architectural details can play. Aesthetic — as a source of spatial poetry and sensory experience. Fundamental — as a strategic design tool that materialises the core concept of a building. Cultural — as a carrier of traditions, craftsmanship and local knowledge. Historical — as an evolving element, moving from simple and experimental to complex and normative. Political — as an activist tool and a lever for circularity and inclusion.
