The exhibition Entangled Matter, dedicated to the work of Brussels-based collective Rotor and first presented in Brussels in 2024, continues its international tour in Romania as part of the Beta – Timișoara Architecture Biennial, one of the leading architecture events in western Romania.

Conceived by A+ Architecture in Belgium in collaboration with Bozar, Entangled Matter will be presented in a new compact format as part of the Biennial’s 6th edition, In Practice – as opposed to ‘in theory’.

From representation to action

With In Practice, Beta 2026 questions the distance that traditionally separates architecture exhibitions from built reality. Rather than relying solely on drawings, models or images, the Biennial directly engages with its host venue: the former Ion Mincu Technical College, a complex of buildings undergoing transformation near Timișoara’s Botanical Park.

The installation takes the form of a 1:1-scale feasibility study, partially built and designed to evolve through use. It advocates transformation rather than demolition and considers architecture as an open-ended process capable of working with existing structures and their successive layers.

Questioning material flows

This approach directly echoes the research developed by Rotor in Entangled Matter. The collective examines how buildings, materials and raw materials circulate, while critically reflecting on its own position within the construction industry.

Extraction, processing, implementation, demolition and reuse: the exhibition makes visible the material chains underpinning architectural production and questions the models on which today’s construction industry is based.
