Published by Prisme Éditions, Brutalism in Belgium has been selected among the 20 best architecture books of 2025 by the DAM Architectural Book Award, presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Awarded by the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM), this distinction annually honors the world’s most outstanding publications in the field of architectural publishing.

A photographic and critical perspective on brutalist heritage

Dedicated to brutalist buildings constructed in Belgium between the 1950s and 1980s, Brutalism in Belgium offers a sensitive reinterpretation of a heritage often at risk — with some buildings facing demolition, transformation, or abandonment.

The book documents more than fifty emblematic buildings located in Brussels, Liège, Namur, Antwerp, Ghent, Louvain-la-Neuve, Leuven, Charleroi, Mons, Hasselt, Dilbeek, Turnhout, Harelbeke, and Ostend.

The photographs by Pierrick de Stexhe, taken with a large-format analogue view camera in black and white, provide both a rigorous and poetic vision of these structures.
Each building is captured from six fixed, frontal or axial viewpoints, revealing its geometry, rhythm, and monumental presence.
