About

Brunfaut Tower

Originally built in 1965 with a steel frame structure, Brunfaut Tower stood as a testament to architectural rationalism. Over the decades, it became clear that a complete renovation was not only necessary but essential to meet contemporary standards of safety, comfort, and energy efficiency.

Our design approach focused on enhancing the tower’s functionality while preserving its landmark status in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. By doubling the tower’s floor area and opting to “build upward” rather than densify at street level, we were able to expand its footprint without compromising valuable public space.

Through the integration of innovative timber construction, we not only added five additional storeys but also transformed the interior spaces with warmth and durability. The use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) reinforces structural integrity while endowing the apartments with a welcoming atmosphere that combines aesthetic appeal with practicality.

The revitalized Brunfaut Tower now rises as a beacon of sustainable urban living—a harmonious blend of heritage preservation and contemporary innovation. This project reflects our commitment to designing architectural solutions that are not only necessary and functional, but also capable of enriching the human experience through thoughtful and meticulous design.
