Project

Public square in Dinant

Architect

Programme
The public square Patenier is an urban square along the Meuse in the center of Dinant. The project includes an underground car park (capacity of 100 cars) and a square facing the river that can host shows and markets.
About
The car park is under the water table and in a flood zone. The grid of the place, determining the position of the car spaces, trees, the layout of the paving stones, is in correspondence with the rhythm of the structure and the car spaces of the basement, which creates a particular play of shade on the walls due to the sinusoidal shape of the ceiling. Bright slots in the floor covering of the square bring natural light to the parking lot during the day. At night, the parking lot lights enliven the floor of the square. On the sinusoidal ceiling of the parking, a white ellipse is painted to give an effect of movement. A blue color is applied to the entrance / exit ceiling of the car park to symbolize the sky and dematerialize the ceiling. The exterior walls of the stairwell are painted bright green to create a pedestrian appeal.
