Programme

Renovation of a house and a barn

About

The entrance is located in the house, under the porch whose two large doors are maintained in their original state (repainted green). The green ‘lichen’ color was chosen to match the existing cladding (stone and brick). The green ‘lichen’ is not a garish or bright color, on the contrary, this ‘vert-de-gris’ exists in nature and harmonizes with time (like a copper cladding that oxidizes).

At the level of the terrace on the side, the retaining wall of the land is set back to enlarge the flat area. In the thickness of this dry stone wall, a staircase is placed to lead directly to the independent bedroom.

In the barn, a kitchen opens onto the landscape/terrace at the rear via a large window.

A window is also placed above the worktop, overlooking the entrance porch and the lively street. In the barn, a staircase leads from the leefkeuken to a mezzanine/library.

To bring in maximum natural light, a trio of windows is created on the rear facade and a bull's-eye window is created on the north gable. This contemporary interpretation of the barn oculus is a nod to the original purpose of this part of the building.
