Renovation of a neoclassical house in Brussels
- About
A new owner, keen to renovate their property, bring it up to current energy standards and infuse it with their imagination, desires and needs. A new mission for Eon Architecture!
As usual, we approached the project by starting with the existing elements, both tangible and intangible. Very quickly, our analysis highlighted a striking feature of the existing house. Whereas staircases are usually enclosed between rooms, here it is prominently displayed, extending beyond the rear façade and featuring large landings on each floor. We decided to exploit this distinctive feature. Taking inspiration from architectural classics (Victor Horta's Hôtel Solvay), we proposed partially opening up the landings and creating a large light well running the entire height of the building.
While respecting the basic programme, the main intervention shifted from the classic rear façade extension to the stairwell, which became the heart of the future occupants' lives.
In parallel with the architectural project, the client entrusted us with the interior design. This gave us the opportunity to ensure the consistency of the project down to the smallest detail!- Typology
