Programme

Renovation of a family-house

About

Context

The project involves completely redesigning this small, old workers' house to meet the needs of its new owners.

The existing layout of the house has the following disadvantages: vertical circulation is currently located at the rear, which reduces the living space on that side of the building. The façades have small openings and little natural light penetrates the interior.

Project

The old vertical circulation and half of the floors on the inner courtyard side are demolished to make way for a new central vertical circulation in the house plan, thus acting as a backbone between the front and rear rooms. This first operation made it possible to open up the rear façade with large windows and to install a system of split - level landings in the house. This allows each living space – lounge, living room, kitchen – to be separated from the others, while providing visual continuity and a through-plan layout.
