Programme

Masterplan and renovation of the public spaces surrounding social housing of Peterbos Park

About

Peterbos is a park. A park where people live and reside. The embodiment of modernity, living collectively in tall, dense buildings frees up a large base, a shared landscape. At Peterbos, this large area has aged, deteriorated, and become disconnected from the city. Today, a long process of change is underway: renovation of housing and public spaces to ultimately give the neighborhood a new image.

Located on a large slope, a marked relief between a ridge line, now highlighted by the green walk, and the “broek,” the bottom of the small Broekbeek valley, the park is built on this striking topography of the tributaries of the Senne valley. The Peterbos is a landscaped area within a network of green spaces on a metropolitan scale. Along the Brussels greenway, it neighbors the Scheutbos to the north and Queen Astrid Park to the south, both of which are accessible via a dense network of paths. To the west, a series of tree-lined avenues descend along the ridge to the West Station, the canal, and the Anderlecht slaughterhouses.
