The video, showing the Brussels-based Îlot Sacré (Sacred Island) project by DDS+ will be presented this year in Cannes, within the framework of the 2018 MIPIM Awards . The development is a finalist in the Best Residential Project category.

Îlot Sacré is located in the historic heart of Brussels, 100 metres from the Grand-Place, within the UNESCO world heritage site perimeter. The plot, which had been abandoned since the 1960s, was a carbuncle well-known to Brussels residents. The 6,000 m2 housing project focuses on a very simple idea: To bring back to life the network of backstreets which existed before the demolitions to create a semi-public space for residents.

The video, made over a 2-year period, places an emphasis on the context and the process for this unique project, using various camera techniques such as time lapses or aerial shots taken using a drone. Particular attention was given to highlighting architectural quality and the specific uses of the building.

Jonathan Ortegat has specialized in architectural videos for several years. It is an activity he developed while working within the “Creative Business” incubator from 2015 to 2017. Over this period, he shot videos about the renovation of MAD.Brussels, a project rooted in the temporary partnership between V+ and Rotor, and took part in the Architecture Workroom Brussels at the “Imagine Europe. In search of new narratives” exhibition at the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts.

At the end of 2017, he was awarded the “Picture the City” contract by the BMA, and started his yearly project at the “Bouwfeester”, with the projection of the “TEAM BMA” video.
