2011 sees the launch of the very first Public Contracting Authority Prize of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, set up to reward projects undertaken between the 1st of January 2005 and the 31st of August 2011. The results will be announced on the 11th of October.

This biennial award is designed to recognise a project backer and a best practice applied within the framework of a public architecture project within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, that stand out due to the exemplary nature of the process implemented and/or the constancy of the approach adopted by the developer.

The prize has been broken down into  four categories – Public facilities / Culture, sport and education / Public housing / Landscaping, transport and public spaces – and a Special Prize for the "Promotion of the integrated approach" to help the jury, comprised of external experts and public officials representing the communes and regions, to select the winners and nominees. The winner of each category will be the subject of a publication drawn up by the Architecture Unit of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and will be handed a brass plate to be displayed on the building.

An initiative of the Architecture Unit of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, with the support of the Order of Architects – French-speaking and German-speaking Council and the Belgian architecture journal A+, in partnership with the Union of the Towns and Communes of Wallonia and the Association of the City and Communes of the Brussels-Capital Region, in charge of communication.
