Traumnovelle: Workshop in Lisbon

For the Lisbon Triennale, Traumnovelle will give a workshop entitled “Ornaments of Power” alongside the exhibition “What is Ornament?”, presented by Ambra Fabi and Giovanni Piovene in the Culturgest Cultural centre.

Throughout history, architecture has been used as a tool to express power and domination. If a building were a sentence, its ornaments would be the superlatives. By observing the expression of power through the prism of architectural history, the aim of this workshop is to show the ideological weight of architectural artefacts, including when they are used in a contemporary way. The aim is to invite users and space creators to grasp the historical weight of architectural elements when relevant. The Lisbon Caixa Geral de Depositos building, which uses a large number of shapes, symbols and ornaments to portray its institution's image, will serve as a case study to read and understand the political message of architectural elements.
