What about transitional architecture & urbanism?

This is the question that will be asked at the various events we are organising in Graz on July è and 8 in collaboration with TU Graz and the Hybrid Club as part of the presentation of the publication Inventories#3 and the eponymous exhibition.

The making of an inclusive city by Communa association, Sâm Rosenzweig & Antoine Dutrieu. The practice of temporary use of vacant buildings is an opportunity for diverse stakeholders (public authority, citizens as well as private actors) to work together on the making of a participative, experimental, and solidary city.

Slow conversion of industrial sites by AgwA architectsBenoît Vandenbulcke. From temporary occupation to long term adaptation, the challenge consists of finding an equilibrium between regulations, reuse, the precise search for a site's potential and the necessary margin of appropriation by its users.

Architectures Wallonie-Bruxelles Inventaires # 3 Inventories

Selected for the first time by public choice, 45 exemplary constructions are examined in the book Inventories #3, covering individual and group-housing, workspaces, social facilities and public spaces. 8 of these constructions are exhibited here. Also discussed are 45 actions aimed at improving life in urban and rural landscapes. This is set in the context of contemporary issues and illustrates the work made by those with concern for the inclusion of both experts and users, environment, economy of means, and social housing.

This book is the fruit of a unique approach devised by curators Gilles Debrun and Pauline de La Boulaye, in collaboration with the artistic collective Habitant·e·s des images. This included setting up camp with caravans in three separate stopovers in Wallonia, involving discussions with residents and local players, site visits with architects, and extensive public debates with all those concerned.

With its many discussion-points and visuals, this book and this exhibition make solid proposals for those involved in public and private works as well as everybody else who has concerns for the environment.
