Construction of a medical centre
- About
Background
The Balances medical centre is an existing medical centre located in the Balances district of Salzinne. The medical centre is not very visible from the public space as it is located on the ground floor of an apartment building with little or no link to the public space. The medical centre had the opportunity to buy 3 adjoining plots of land to build a new medical centre.
Project
The corner plots purchased have a unique shape (trapezoidal) and the corner location makes them an opportunity in terms of visibility for the neighbourhood. The project proposes an entrance on the corner of the plot to ensure that the entrance to this para-public facility is visible. The building develops the medical function at ground level and the administrative function on the 1st floor. The ground-level development of the medical centre revolves around a central patio, which is at the heart of the project. This patio links the different functions (waiting room, reception, medical wing), brings light into the ground floor spaces and provides the privacy required for the medical centre's functions. Spatially, the reception area plays a pivotal role between patient and staff, between the entrance and the patio, and between the waiting room and the surgeries. Particular attention has been paid to the health aspect of the building, with the choice of a 'breathable' envelope and bio-sourced materials.
