Cultural and Sports Center of Scailmont in Manage

Programme: The transformation and expansion project of the Scailmont Cultural and Sports Center embodies a strong commitment to revitalizing this iconic space in Manage. It unfolds in three major phases: the energy and functional renovation of the existing complex, the expansion of cultural and sports infrastructures, and finally, the creation of a 250-seat auditorium. By promoting an autonomous management of the various functions, this project enhances the site's versatility and encourages a dynamic and inclusive use. Phase 1 has now been completed.

About: The architecture of the project aims to serve as a bridge between past and future, between permanence and renewal. The complex, built in the 1970s, was fragmented, composed of volumes with heterogeneous materials. The intervention seeks to reveal a new coherence by simplifying the perception of built masses while creating a subtle dialogue between the renovated spaces and the forthcoming extensions.
The volumetric choices follow two guiding principles. On one hand, an orthogonal reading of the existing structure is reinforced by a structuring axis that guides internal circulation and connects the cultural center to the heart of the city. On the other hand, a controlled rupture is introduced with the positioning of the auditorium, slightly offset, standing as a landmark in the landscape.
The unity of the project is expressed through a meticulous treatment of the building envelope. External thermal insulation, open-jointed raw wood cladding, and light tones give the site a new identity. These gestures, both understated and powerful, reconcile the scattered elements of the complex into a homogeneous, legible, and elegant whole.
