Programme

The Courcelles Municipal Swimming Pool project aims to provide a versatile and accessible aquatic facility for all. It features two swimming pools—a 25-meter sports pool and a learning pool—alongside various functional spaces, including a reception area, changing rooms, administrative offices, technical rooms, and a cafeteria with a terrace.

The spatial layout prioritizes a smooth and intuitive circulation between different areas, ensuring optimal user comfort while meeting strict safety and accessibility standards.

About: The Courcelles Municipal Swimming Pool project is rooted in the ambition to create an urban landmark, positioned at the junction between the existing urban fabric and future site expansions. Its strategic placement defines the corner between the parking area and Rue Emile Bronchain, ensuring a seamless integration with both the built and natural environment.
The building’s volumetric composition consists of two distinct entities: a ground-level base housing technical and service areas, topped by a lighter, elevated volume that accommodates the swimming pools. The gently sloping roof, designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape, features extensive green roofing, helping to reduce heat islands and enhance environmental integration.
The project emphasizes transparency and natural light. Large glazed openings punctuate the north, east, and west façades, flooding the pool hall with daylight while framing scenic views of the surrounding landscape. Materiality plays a key role, with red brick echoing the local architectural context, complemented by corrugated metal elements that lend the building a timeless elegance and a subtle contemporary identity.
