- Programme
The Bosquetville School, a witness to post-war modernism, is undergoing a heritage-conscious conservation and targeted energy renovation. Located in the historic heart of Charleroi, the intervention respects the building’s original architecture while enhancing its efficiency.
The project includes the replacement of existing window frames with high-performance aluminum double-glazed joinery, the refurbishment of façades, and roof insulation, ensuring a subtle yet effective modernization while preserving the building’s identity.
- About
The Bosquetville School embodies an era of functional urban planning and pragmatic architecture, designed by architect Paul Hayot. Built in multiple phases between 1959 and 1971, the building stands out for its rational composition and the iconic post-war materials that define its aesthetic. Its inclusion in the Charleroi Architecture Guide attests to its heritage significance.
The intervention is minimalist and respectful. The structure remains unchanged, while the original materiality is enhanced through meticulous cleaning and restoration of the façades. The use of granular white plaster to replace the damaged mosaics ensures greater durability without compromising the authenticity of the building.
The choice of new aluminum window frames (RAL 7021) maintains architectural coherence while significantly improving thermal and acoustic performance. The roof benefits from reinforced mineral wool insulation and a reflective waterproofing system, helping to reduce summer overheating. These precise and measured interventions provide a renewed interpretation of the school, where modernity and heritage engage in a subtle dialogue.
