Perched on the hills of Liège, the ADEPS Centre at Blanc Gravier now hosts a new artwork by Marcel Berlanger, bringing art into the daily life of young high-level athletes.

To accompany this project, the Cellule architecture has published a new title in its ART PUBLIC collection:
Marcel Berlanger – Centre ADEPS Le Blanc Gravier (Liège).
This edition highlights the subtle relationship between the artistic intervention, the renovated architecture, and the uses of the space.

Art, architecture and movement

Conceived in dialogue with the renovation designed by Baumans-Deffet Architecture et Urbanisme, this two-part artistic intervention connects built space, natural surroundings, and human movement.

Inside the building, monochrome portraits of French-speaking Belgian athletes and medallists punctuate the rooms of the accommodation centre.
Reproduced on fibreglass panels applied directly onto the concrete columns, these images reveal the texture of the material, merging painting and architecture into a single, tactile surface.

Outside, an aluminium frieze evokes the surrounding tree branches, translated into oversized black pixels, creating a dialogue between architecture, nature, and the interior pictorial rhythm.

A publication extending the project

Comprising a 16-page illustrated booklet and a large-format poster, the publication includes a text by Pierre-Yves Rollin, Director of the BPS22, Museum of Art in Charleroi, who analyses both the symbolic and material dimensions of the project.

This publication reflects the commitment of the Cellule architecture to promoting contemporary creation and cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Accessible to a wide audience, the ART PUBLIC collection aims to raise awareness of the creative processes behind artworks integrated into architecture and public spaces in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

Brutalisme Bruxelles

Brutalisme Bruxelles
