Dérivations #10 : Habiter en commun(s)

Dérivations 10
© Dérivations

The journal Dérivations devotes its tenth issue to the question of housing, approached through the lens of the commons and their renewal.

In Belgium, the expression “a brick in the belly” is often used to describe the deep-rooted attachment to private property. This perspective tends to reduce housing to an individual project, obscuring its collective and political dimensions.

Yet the very existence of a right to housing, enshrined in the Constitution, immediately affirms the collective and political nature of this issue.

This issue examines housing as a common: a shared asset to be collectively conceived and politically organized—accessible to all and shaped by ecological, socio-cultural, economic, and relational challenges.

Bringing together analyses, testimonies, and artistic interventions, the journal offers a multifaceted reflection on housing, addressing it at both the scale of individuals and that of social groups.
