Jacques Dupuis à Bruxelles

A major figure in 20th-century Belgian architecture, Jacques Dupuis has been the subject of a sustained critical reappraisal since the late 1990s. National and international publications, documentaries, exhibitions and academic research have gradually contributed to recontextualising a body of work long interpreted solely through the lens of modernism, revealing instead its richness, complexity and continued relevance.

This volume offers an in-depth analysis of Jacques Dupuis’s Brussels projects, through eighteen contributions that provide a comprehensive overview of his work in the Belgian capital.

Testimonies from property owners complement this analysis, highlighting the timeless character of these architectures. Two further texts examine the situation of his projects in Flanders and Wallonia, while the book concludes with a pedagogical reflection, emphasising the enduring qualities of his work—qualities that continue to offer valuable insights into housing, light, materials and the perception of space.

“Jacques Dupuis’s work still holds many more secrets.
It remains there, ready to reveal them
to all those wise enough to question it.”
Jean Barthelemy

The publication of this volume is supported by the  Cellule architecture and the Commission for Visual Arts – Architecture Session.
