The Ethics of the Detailing

Entitled Ethics of the Detail, this new thematic dossier of the journal CLARA is part of an in-depth critical reflection on the role of architectural detail in contemporary practice and on the ethical implications it entails.

Edited by Tiphaine Abenia (Université libre de Bruxelles), Louis Destombes (ENSA Paris–La Villette) and Daniel Estevez (ENSA Toulouse), the dossier proposes to consider detail not as a mere matter of execution or finishing, but as a site of action and decision—where those who decide are not always those who build, and rarely those who inhabit.

Building on this observation, the seven contributions gathered here question the conventional frameworks used to define architectural detail. Written by architects, engineers, landscape architects and researchers, the texts explore detail as a spatial, technical, political and social operator, extending its scope beyond a strictly constructive or aesthetic approach.

CLARA 11 is now available in digital format on Cairn.info, and will be released very soon in print in bookstores.
