- About
The new Magasin 4 project, an alternative concert hall founded in 1994, implements a forward-thinking approach. It is located on an unused plot along the canal, within the Citroën-Vergote urban renovation zone. This new building addresses current urban challenges by linking the productive city to urban life, while preserving its role in the alternative music scene. Magasin 4 covers an area of 900 m² and rests on an evolving structure, designed to accommodate complementary functions as needs change. The project takes into account the future evolution of the site and adopts a two-phase approach regarding the future of its construction materials. The general structure, made of concrete, is intended to be permanent. It houses interior fittings, cladding, and equipment that can evolve over time. The dismantability of these elements makes the arrangements flexible and reversible. Recycled materials, such as adobe masonry and steel panels, are used whenever possible. Two volumes structure the building: one dedicated to the logistical activities of musicians and staff, and the other for the public. The concert hall, located between these two blocks, covers an area of 382 m² and is acoustically isolated. It can accommodate up to 500 people and is further enhanced by a rooftop terrace.
