Conversion of an old barn into a village hall
- About
The project involved creating a multi-purpose space that could accommodate a variety of activities. The design focuses on organising the space to provide multi-functional areas that can be used together or separately. The proposed architecture ensures that the new additions fit into the existing structure without compromising its functionality or character. The renovation process involved removing dilapidated areas and stabilising the building by adding new foundations and a drainage system. Load-bearing masonry with insulation was then installed to improve thermal comfort. The layout of the space places the multi-purpose hall at the centre, surrounded by service areas such as the kitchen, technical rooms and toilets. Access is via the original barn door, and the double height of the space has been maintained to preserve its spacious character. Energy efficiency was also taken into account, and options were evaluated to find the best solution without compromising the heritage quality of the building. Ventilation was used as a heat carrier to meet the requirements of the space.
