Modern and contemporary architecture. Liège

© Elodie Ledure
A fresh look at Liège’s architecture

In Liège and around the Modern and contemporary architecture guide invites you to look at architecture differently. It presents a selection of 400 projects commented by 30 authors and illustrated by the photographer Elodie Ledure. The projects are also illustrated with plans and located on maps. Modest programs or major accomplishments, private commissions and public buildings, they are the fruit of modernity revisited in each period by the architects, from Art Nouveau until today.

The Modern and contemporary architecture guide about Liège is run by two historians, Sébastien Charlier, PhD in history, art and archeology at the University of Liège, and Thomas Moor, communication officer in charge of the cultural diffusion and promotion of the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles.

A large-scale project

This first volume devoted to Liège is part of a collection. It’s the result of an important work of scientific research in collaboration with universities.

Richly documented, the collection is accessible to a wide audience.

To be published in the "Modern and contemporary architecture Guide" collection:

- Mons, 2015 ("European Capital of Culture")
- Charleroi, 2016 (350th anniversary of the city)
- Tournai, 2017

A tool for cultural appropriation of modernity

The collection offers a fresh look at the architecture, offering a critical selection of representative buildings of architectural modernity - and the notion of social, cultural, political, economic, technical, aesthetic underlying it.
