Known for her monumental interventions in public space, Françoise Schein has also developed a more intimate body of work—drawings, paintings, sculptures—that offers a different perspective on her career and the unfolding of her artistic thought. This publication delves into the roots of the creative universe of this human rights activist, whose work transcends both geographical and artistic boundaries.

An artist, architect, and urban designer by training, as well as a cartographer and advocate for a fairer humanity, Françoise Schein is widely recognized for her work integrating human rights and local cultures into the metro stations of major cities around the world. A professor of visual arts at ESAM Caen/Cherbourg, she also practices sculpture, drawing, photography, video, and installations for galleries, institutions, cities, and museums. As an artist of human space devoted to collective urban life, her work blossoms in public spaces and arises from the specific architecture of each city.

For more than 35 years, Françoise Schein and her team have worked tirelessly to improve society through artistic and educational projects focused on fundamental rights, culture, and ethics. This publication is released on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition held at the Grand Curtius Museum in Liège, from May 16 to August 31, 2025.
