Construction of a cultural centre and a complex of 14 flats
- About
The Foyer Culturel has been developing its activities in the same premises and in the same configuration since its creation in 1954. Modernising the building, bringing it up to standard and, above all, radically improving the quality of its reception and facilities are essential to its continued existence. The Foyer is acquiring the neighbouring building in order to transform its infrastructure. The two buildings involved in the project have too many constraints to be used in a comfortable, accessible (PRM) way and in compliance with current safety standards. The dilapidated state of the buildings and the absence of any unique or general heritage features suggest that they will have to be completely rebuilt.
The new Foyer facilities will be built entirely on one level. The premises, comprising a vestibule, a lounge, a bar/kitchen and a 120-seat conference room, are arranged around a courtyard and an interior garden. The management of natural light - direct or indirect - is designed to give each of these areas its own specific character.
The flats are independent of the Foyer and spread over the nine upper floors. All the flats are through-viewing, with uninterrupted views over the Meuse or the valley slopes. The care taken in organising them and the sensitivity of the architectural composition implicitly give high added value to the quality of the housing.
