Programme

Conversion and extension of a medical centre

About

The extension project for the medical centre has been developed with a sensitive architectural approach, integrating heritage rehabilitation, spatial efficiency and quality of use. The proposed development seeks to enhance the existing buildings listed in the IPIC through a programme of renovation. This renovation would respect the massing of the buildings, their original materiality, and the internal organisation of the spaces.

The redevelopment of the rear building and the installation of a freestanding volume creates a central patio, the light-filled heart of the project. The property is illuminated by natural light and offers views of the surrounding area, thus deviating from the conventional enfilade design.

A newly constructed side volume provides a link between the old and the new, while concurrently asserting the centre's entry into the urban landscape. The architectural language employed in its design combines white rendering, natural stone plinths and vertically aligned red bricks.

The composition of the façade, characterised by the presence of substantial apertures, serves to accentuate the curvature of the volumes. The structure is supported by vertical brickwork and incorporates a moucharabieh, which serves as a divider between private and public areas.

The complex is extended by a permeable landscaped car park, in accordance with its designated uses and topography. Internally, the fluid and rational organisation ensures a high level of functionality. The spaces are characterised by an abundance of natural light, a warm and welcoming ambience, and a flexible layout that caters to the needs of both care staff and patients.
