Programme

Construction of the new headquarters of the Republic of Burundi

About

The new headquarters of the Central Bank of Burundi, currently under construction, is located on a plot situated along one of Bujumbura’s main north–south axes, within a regular orthogonal urban grid and bordered by four surrounding streets, with Boulevard de la Liberté as the primary thoroughfare.

Within this urban and landscape context, and given its institutional status, the building is conceived as an iconic presence. The coherence of its volumetric composition — referencing a typological archetype, the cube — together with the unified treatment of its façades, ensures a strong and recognisable identity within Bujumbura’s skyline.

The programme brings together a range of functions, including a 150-space car park, a vault room, archives, eight office floors, an auditorium, reception lounges, a cafeteria, a restaurant and its associated kitchen facilities.
