Programme

Renovation of the envelope of a building of 110 social housing and implementation of a ventilation system. The intervention focused on the renovation of the facades of the apartment building and therefore insulation and cladding of the façade and replacing existing chassis.

About

The intervention focused on the refurbishment of the residential building’s façades, including external insulation, new cladding and the replacement of the existing window frames.

The project was initiated in 2010 by Le Foyer Anderlechtois for this housing block dating from 1970. The objective was to upgrade the thermal performance of the façades and install a mechanical ventilation system combining single- and double-flow solutions. The façades were insulated from the exterior in order to minimise disturbance to the tenants, while complying with the thermal performance requirements set out by the Belgian Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) regulations.

The design of the coloured window frames was developed to enhance outward visual openness while improving occupant safety. Energy and acoustic performance requirements informed the selected ventilation strategy, whose primary aim was to integrate a double-flow system within the apartments. The project has upgraded 111 social housing units, all of which now meet low-energy building standards.
